The Leap That Changed Everything

Eight years ago, I made a choice that terrified me: I left my secure job, packed my life into a backpack, and flew to Indonesia with just £500 in my pocket. I didn’t have a concrete plan—just a deep, unshakable desire to escape the grind of city life in London and discover something more fulfilling.

That decision changed everything.

From “Dream Job” to a Life of Freedom

At the time, I was the Head of Digital Design at a respected agency—a role many would call a dream job. But it didn’t feel like a dream. City life felt suffocating. My days were consumed by work, my nights by the noise of six party-loving housemates, and my weekends were spent trying to recover.

I remember looking out at a future of endless commutes, staring at brick walls, and living for the weekend. It felt like a life on repeat. The thought of staying there for another year—let alone eight—was unbearable.

But leaving wasn’t easy. I was terrified of losing my income, failing, and not knowing where my next opportunity would come from.

Starting Over in Indonesia

When I landed in Lombok, Indonesia, life was far from glamorous. I spent three out of seven nights in a hostel, subletting rooms in a small house I’d rented to make ends meet. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was determined not to go back.

Slowly, I started figuring things out. I took risks, made mistakes, and learned along the way. Looking back, there are things I could have done better—but every stumble taught me something that led to where I am today.

A Life of Adventure and Gratitude

Fast forward to now: I’m writing this from Nicaragua, where I’ve been exploring remote beaches, chasing waves with an old friend who once dreamed of going pro in surfing. Together, we’ve been reflecting on the journeys that brought us here.

There’s been countless incredible experiences—like hitchhiking in Sri Lanka to find elephants, living in a camper in Colorado to go snowboarding, cycling through Spain with my brothers, surfing in the Philippines, paragliding in Indonesia and creating an art exhibition in Mexico —were only possible because I took that leap.

I’ve worked on inspiring projects with companies around the world, built meaningful friendships, and created a life that feels rich with freedom and adventure.

Why I’m Sharing This

I know this life isn’t for everyone. It takes commitment, passion, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. But if you’re feeling stuck—if the thought of staying where you are feels like a waste—I want you to know it’s possible to create something extraordinary.

I’ve learned so much on this journey, and I wish I’d had someone to guide me when I started. That’s why we created the Bloom Digital Nomad Program—an 8-day retreat in Nicaragua designed to help you take that first step.

The perfect insurance for digital nomads

An epidural to remove a sea urchin taught me a lesson I’ll never forget. I travel a lot and love being outdoors and doing extreme sports. I love surfing and always try to be careful when I’m out on the waves. But one day when I went into the sea in Indonesia, I stepped on a sea urchin. The pain was intense, but the waves were so good that I decided to surf anyway. Unfortunately, this caused the spikes to penetrate even deeper into my body.
